Israel has announced its decision to appeal the arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office stated that the State of Israel rejects the authority of the ICC and the legitimacy of the arrest warrants.
The appeal follows a meeting between Netanyahu and US Sen. Lindsey Graham in Jerusalem. Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, assured Netanyahu of promoting measures in Congress against the ICC and countries cooperating with it.
The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office emphasized that if the ICC rejects the appeal, it would highlight the bias of the court against Israel to its allies in the United States and around the world.
Last week, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu, Gallant, and a senior Hamas official, accusing them of war crimes during and after the October 7, 2023, attacks on Israel and the subsequent Israeli offensive in Gaza.
