Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has stated that Israel is closely coordinating with the United States as it prepares to strike back at Iran. However, Gallant emphasized that Israel will make its own independent decisions regarding how to retaliate against Iran's actions.
Despite the US expressing opposition to a strike on Iranian nuclear facilities, Gallant asserted that Israel has not ruled out any options and that 'everything is on the table.' He highlighted Israel's capabilities to hit targets both near and far, stating that Israel will respond appropriately to any Iranian attack.
Gallant is set to meet with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to coordinate on threats from Iran and its proxies. He has become a key interlocutor with US officials, engaging in discussions with top White House officials and Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, the head of US Central Command.
Gallant also discussed Israel's successful campaign against Hezbollah, noting that a significant portion of Hezbollah's capabilities has been dismantled. He mentioned that Hezbollah is currently facing a lack of command and control due to Israel's actions.
While the ground operation against Hezbollah is primarily focused on targeting positions closer to the border, it has recently expanded. Gallant believes that the blows dealt against Hezbollah have created an opportunity for change not only in Lebanon but in the entire Middle East.
