Israel informed the United States prior to the Beirut strike on Friday, as confirmed by an Israeli official and two US officials. However, it remains unclear whether the specific target of the strike was shared with the US authorities.
According to one of the US officials, Israel notified the US government about the military action once the operation was already in progress, with Israeli planes already in the air. The official stated that the US had no prior knowledge of the strike and therefore did not consider the notification as a proper heads-up.
The Israeli official mentioned that the notification was sent to the US 'shortly before' the strike took place, emphasizing that the US did not have any involvement in the operation.
Earlier reports indicated that the target of Israel's strike was Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. The Israeli military is currently working to confirm whether Nasrallah was indeed killed in the strike.
