Israel-Hamas war: Hamas confirms Yahya Sinwar's death

Hamas confirms Yahya Sinwar's death

New Delhi: A day after Israeli forces said they eliminated Hamas's top leader Yahya Sinwar, Hamas on Friday confirmed that Sinwar was killed in Gaza.

Hamas also reiterated that hostages taken from Israel a year ago will not be released until they secure a cease-fire in Gaza and a withdrawal of Israeli troops.

Khalil Al-Hayya, deputy Gaza Hamas chief and the group's chief negotiator, confirmed the death of Yahya Sinwar.

Sinwar was Hamas' top leader inside the Gaza Strip for years, closely connected to its military wing. He was elevated to Hamas' top position in July after his predecessor Ismail Haniyeh was killed in an apparent Israeli strike in Tehran.
