Israel Defense Forces Spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari announced on Tuesday the declassification of military operations aimed at preventing a potential attack by Hezbollah along the country's northern border with Lebanon. The move comes in response to Hezbollah's threats to carry out a large-scale assault, dubbed 'Conquer the Galilee,' reminiscent of the October 7th attack on southern Israel.
Since the conflict in Gaza began, Hezbollah has launched over 9,500 rockets at Israeli homes, leading to the evacuation of 60,000 residents. Hagari highlighted Hezbollah's intentions to invade Israel, infiltrate civilian communities, and target innocent civilians, similar to past attacks by Hamas.
Hezbollah had been preparing for the planned assault from villages in southern Lebanon, where they had amassed weapons and built underground tunnels near the border with Israel. In response, the IDF conducted a series of operations to dismantle Hezbollah's terrorist infrastructure in the region.
During these operations, IDF Special Forces carried out missions in multiple locations along the border, gathering intelligence, destroying weapons caches, and neutralizing terrorist assets. The operations revealed and dismantled over 700 Hezbollah terror assets, including advanced Iranian-made weapons.
The IDF's actions were aimed at ensuring the safety of Israeli civilians and preventing Hezbollah from executing its planned attack. By disrupting Hezbollah's capabilities and infrastructure, the IDF seeks to safeguard the border region and allow the evacuated residents to return to their homes in northern Israel.
