Israel Calls For Additional Sanctions On Iran After Attack

Israel's Foreign Minister has called for additional sanctions on Iran in response to a recent missile and drone attack targeting Israel. The Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, has reached out to 32 countries urging them to impose new sanctions on Iran's missile project and designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.

Katz emphasized the need for diplomatic efforts alongside military responses to address the threat posed by Iran. He stated that imposing additional sanctions is crucial to stopping and weakening Iran before it's too late.

The missile and drone attack on Israel over the weekend was reportedly in retaliation for a strike on the Iranian consulate in Syria that resulted in casualties, including a senior IRGC commander. Israel's air defense systems, with the assistance of allies like the U.S., successfully intercepted the majority of the drones and missiles launched by Iran.

The escalation of tensions between Israel and Iran has raised concerns about the potential for a broader regional conflict. Israeli military officials have warned of a response to the attack but have not provided specific details.

President Biden has reaffirmed the U.S.'s support for Israel's right to self-defense but has indicated that the U.S. will not participate in any Israeli counter-offensive against Iran. The Group of Seven major democracies is reportedly working on coordinated measures against Iran, as confirmed by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

While the U.S. continues to support Israel's defense efforts, officials have emphasized that they do not seek a wider war in the region or conflict with Iran.
