PHILADELPHIA The streak continues, even if in an unlikely scenario.
But perhaps the bigger picture is that the Islanders, on a night when they didn't get many of the bounces they've gotten during their 14-game point streak, were resilient enough to erase a three-goal deficit in the third period.
Anthony Beauvillier scored twice in the third period and the Islanders are now on a 13-0-1 run after a 4-3 shootout win over the Flyers on Saturday night at Wells Fargo Center.
The Islanders (14-3-1), with 21-year-old Finnish forward Otto Koivula making his NHL debut, started slowly, but were able to capitalize on enough of their late chances.
The Islanders' Thomas Greiss stopped 29 shots, then turned aside Sean Couturier and Claude Giroux in the shootout to extend his winning streak to seven games.
Brian Elliott, in his first start in four games, made 33 saves for the Flyers (10-6-4) but allowed shootout goals to Jordan Eberle and Mathew Barzal.
The Islanders have still not lost in regulation since a 5-2 defeat at Carolina on Oct. 11 as they started the season 1-3-0. Their longest point streak was their franchise-record 15-game winning streak from Jan. 21 to Feb. 20, 1982.
The Islanders can match that when they start a home-and-home series against the Penguins on Tuesday night at Pittsburgh.
The Islanders would not let their streak end meekly, forcing the play in the third period.
Beauvillier finished an odd-man rush by slipping a backhander through Elliott's pads to cut the deficit to 3-1 at 7:46 after taking a feed from Derick Brassard.
Barzal then extended his point streak to four games by swiping in a power-play goal just above the crease to bring the Islanders within 3-2 at 13:34. Beauvillier completed the comeback by getting to the crease for an unassisted goal at 17:56.
The game marked the start of a stretch of 10 of 13 on the road after the Islanders started the season with 12 of 17 at home.
"Sometimes when you're on the road too long or at home too long you can become stale a little bit," Islanders coach Barry Trotz said. "I thought we've done a good job managing that part of it."
The Flyers scored on their first shot as Couturier beat Greiss with a wrist shot from the right circle at 1:38 of the first period off an odd-man rush. And Couturier fed defenseman Ivan Provorov's power-play one-timer from the right point for a 2-0 lead with 23.1 seconds to go in the first period with Jordan Eberle in the penalty box after an obvious trip on Provorov behind the Islanders' crease.
The less-than-crisp Islanders could have faced a bigger deficit after one period but Greiss stopped Travis Konecny at the crease on an odd-man rush at 10:29 the Flyers' second shot and stoned James van Riemsdyk at the crease on the Flyers' first power play.
Eberle missed a backhander at an open net after Elliott roamed too far out of the crease to play the puck at 4:10. In the second period, Elliott sprawled to rob Brock Nelson from the right post on a power-play chance at 15:07. Casey Cizikas then rang one off the post on a four-on-one rush at 16:37, pretty much summing up the Islanders' night.
The Islanders were better in the second period, keeping the puck up ice for longer stretches. Yet the Flyers stretched their lead to 3-0 on their second shot of the period as Oskar Lindblom beat an unscreened Greiss from the left circle at 12:20.
