The President of the United States Joe Biden has announced the leader of Jihadist militant group ISIS has been 'removed from the battlefield' by US forces.
Biden broke the news in a statement posted to the official POTUS Twitter account this afternoon.
“Last night at my direction, U.S. military forces successfully undertook a counterterrorism operation,” the tweet read.
“Thanks to the bravery of our Armed Forces, we have removed from the battlefield Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi — the leader of ISIS.”
"I’ll deliver remarks regarding this operation later this morning," he added in a second tweet.
