The Carabao Cup action continues tonight with 16 more sides in third round action. Manchester City vs Chelsea looks to be the pick-out tie of the round with the all Premier League affair kicking off at 8pm.
Elsewhere, Premier League leaders Arsenal host Brighton and Hove Albion in another all top-flight clash while League One side Derby County travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool.
Manchester United are in action on Thursday night hosting Aston Villa, three days after they were beaten 3-1 by Unai Emery’s side in the league. But is there extra time in the matches and is VAR in use? We take a look at the rules below:

Carabao Cup third round rules
Third round ties in the 2022/23 Carabao Cup that finish level will not go to extra time and, instead, will go straight to a penalty shootout. This is the same from round one through to round five. Only the semi-final and final will have the standard 30-minute extra-time period if required.
Rule 12.4 of the competition’s guidelines states: “In the event of the scores being level at the end of ninety minutes’ play in rounds one, two, three, four and five no extra time shall be played, and the winners shall be determined by the taking of kicks from the penalty mark in accordance with procedures as approved by IFAB.”
VAR will not be in use in the third round ties. VAR will not be used in any Carabao Cup game until the semi-final stage.
