There are a number of firework displays taking place in and around Merseyside for Bonfire Night this year, but the most eagerly anticipated are not going ahead.
The city's phenomenally popular waterfront firework display will not take place this year, it was confirmed last month. Bonfire Night firework displays are a much loved tradition, with many families casting their gazes to the sky to watch elaborate, multicoloured patterns erupt above.
In Liverpool, the waterfront display as part of the River of Light event quickly established itself as a firm favourite. Last year, the firework display was cancelled in a bid to tackle potential disruption and delays caused during the coronavirus pandemic.

In the years before the pandemic hit, the River of Light fireworks display often attracted up to 50,000 people. Though normality has resumed and restrictions are a thing of the past, a spokesperson for Liverpool City Council confirmed there would again be no firework display as part of the River of Light celebrations this year. The popular illuminated outdoor trail returned to the city on October 21, and will run until November 6.

This year, a spokesperson for Wirral Council has confirmed there will be no council-run fireworks displays in parks this year, either.
