A shooting incident outside the White House Correspondents' Dinner venue in Washington, DC, has sparked widespread online speculation and renewed scrutiny of US Secret Service security procedures, after authorities arrested 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen.

The suspect allegedly approached a security perimeter while armed before being stopped by officers, in an incident that left a Secret Service agent injured but protected by a bulletproof vest.
