Ted Lasso Season 4 Is Happening! Here’s Everything We Know: Plot, Cast, Release Date

Just when we thought Ted Lasso had blown the final whistle, it seems the game might be going into extra time.

That’s right, star of our favourite comfort show Jason Sudeikis has just confirmed that we will be getting a fourth season of Ted Lasso.

Sudeikis shared the happy news on the New Heights Podcast on March 14, telling Jason and Travis Kelce that he’s back in the Ted Lasso writers room.

Side note: If this means a potential Travis and Taylor Swift cameo in the new season I might actually pass out. It’s a stretch, but a girl can dream.

“We’re writing season four now,” Sudeikis said on the podcast. “That’s the official word.”

In a press statement from Apple, Sudeikis added: “As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap,’ in season four the folks at AFC Richmond learn to leap before they look, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.”

Ted Lasso has been nothing short of a juggernaut, inspiring a passionate fanbase all over the world, and delivering endless joy and laughter, all while spreading kindness, compassion and unwavering belief,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+.

“Everyone at Apple is thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Jason and the brilliant creative minds behind this show.”

Now while Sudeikis was pretty tight lipped about details of the show, we’ve done some digging and do have some nuggets of info that will help tide you over till we get the new season, including plot details!

Everything we know about Ted Lasso Season 4

When did Ted Lasso Season 4 rumours start?

It all started when Juno Temple, aka the fabulous Keeley Jones, dropped a bombshell that’s got fans more excited than Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) at a yoga class.

In a February 2025 chat with Entertainment Weekly, Juno dropped this little nugget: “I’ve heard the kind of stunt version of, yeah, potentially, it sounds like there might be a season four. I don’t know when. I don’t know exactly who, what, why, where, but I think it sounds like those cogs are turning.”

Nate Shelley, played by Nick Mohammed, had also been stirring the pot. In a video on X, Nick apologised for moving his upcoming tour dates due to “some filming.” He couldn’t say what it was for, but he did wave around a “BELIEVE” sign.

“I know there’ll be speculation as to why you’ve moved these dates,” Nick teased in the video.

“I’ll be honest, it is for some filming.” He then added, “it will be announced shortly,” while urging people not to speculate. Yeah, right.

Even the big wigs were getting in on the action. Warner Bros. TV boss Channing Dungey spilled some tea to Variety back in October 2024, saying, “We are in conversations about season four, and they are very exciting conversations, but it’s still early days.”

9To5Mac also reported that the Magic Rays of Light podcast (an Apple TV+ focused podcast) revealed a potential production start date, and also claimed that season four had been publicly listed on the Film & Television Industry Alliance’s website.

What is the potential plot for Ted Lasso Season 4?

Well, it looks like we might be switching leagues, so to speak. “Ted’s coaching a women’s team,” Sudeikis told the Kelce brothers on the New Heights Podcast.

The press statement from Apple TV+ did say that Jason Sudeikis would be “reprising his award-winning role as the celebrated coach Ted Lasso”. However, when Travis Kelce asked Sudeikis on his podcast if the new season will see Ted in America (which is where the third season saw him leave to) , the actor coyly responded, “Yeah, that’s too many questions.”

Sudeikis has banged on about the three-season arc in the past, so him being more of a side or advice-giving character rather than the main coach of the season isn’t out of the question.

“It sounds like such a political answer, but it’s the truth,” he said on a 2023 episode of David Spade and Dana Carvey’s Fly on the Wall podcast.

“We only conceived these three [seasons], then this thing became this big old thing.”

I need Ted back though! (Image: Ted Lasso / Apple TV+)

One of the strongest candidates to lead the charge? None other than our girl Keeley. Temple seems like she’s up for the job, saying: “I haven’t thought about that, but I think that’s definitely something I would find to be a great journey for Keeley and also for Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham), you know?” per ET.

“And I think, also, women’s football is something that is so exciting – especially in England, we’ve been doing so well.”

What has been the reaction to the Ted Lasso Season 4 news?

While you’d think everyone would be jumping for joy to have something so wholesome come back to our screens, not all Ted Lasso fans are thrilled at the new plot plans.

“Should have ended the show instead of a new team and we know this will end up woke,” said one X user.

“Please don’t make a Ted Lasso season four with just you coaching a women’s team,” another user commented.

“It just won’t be the same. I’d rather see a AFC Richmond spin off without you than this.”

All I have to say is WOMP WOMP. The blatant sexism really do be showing.

But don’t worry, others who love joy are ecstatic about the news. “YES! I’ve missed Ted and his positivity. This is what the world needs,” wrote one X user.

“I need season four like yesterday!!!! Hopefully we get back a lot of familiar faces,” said another.

Who will be cast in Ted Lasso Season 4?

While no official cast list has been confirmed, Jason Sudeikis has hinted that original cast members will be back, which is music to our ears. We’re keeping an ear out for updates from Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton), Phil Dunster (Jamie Tartt), Juno Temple (Keeley Jones), Cristo Fernández (Dani Rojas), Toheeb Jimoh (Sam Obisanya), and Nick Mohammed (Nathan Shelley), among others.

It’s hard to imagine Brendan Hunt wouldn’t return as Coach Beard, especially since he’s still on board as an executive producer. The same goes for Brett Goldstein, who not only played Roy Kent but is also a writer and executive producer — his dual roles make it likely he’ll be back on screen too. As Sudeikis mentioned in a press statement, AFC Richmond will still be part of the mix, so we’re hoping for more of the same lovable characters.

Is there a trailer for Ted Lasso Season 4?

Not yet, but you best believe we’ll be updating this article as soon as we get a trailer.

Is there a release date for Ted Lasso Season 4?

Also no, however if filming kicks off in early 2025, based on previous production schedules, we might expect season four to grace our screens in early to mid-2026.

In the meantime, I’ll be rewatching the only show to ever make me care about sports. And you can join me as all three seasons of Ted Lasso are available on Apple TV+ now.
