Roblox users are having problems chatting to each other as the popular gaming service grapples with a moderation problem.
The technical difficulties began on Sunday afternoon (July 21), with thousands of users reporting issues with Roblox on the website outage tracker Down Detector and on social media.
Initially, the problems were limited to Roblox’s settings page and customisation features, according to Roblox news site RTC.

Then, Roblox confirmed that it was “investigating” an “issue surrounding text being filtered” at 7.39am this morning (July 22). Then, at 8am, the company said it had narrowed it down to an “issue pertaining to all English text potentially being filtered” and was working on a fix.
Roblox is a social gaming platform that attracts 71.5 million users every day, many of whom are children and teens. Chatting and hanging out with friends across a range of different games is a big part of the service’s appeal.
It appears as though the platform is having trouble with the system it uses to automatically check and filter inappropriate language or content in chat, game names, or other text fields.

Roblox users have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to discuss the malfunction, with some claiming that you can bypass the problem by typing in “hola” at the start of a chat. They also shared screenshots of their conversations appearing as hashtags instead of text on the service - indicating that the filter is currently blocking out all chats.
