Is Robert Sanchez injured? Chelsea goalkeeper injury latest

Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez gestures to give instructions to his defenders during the Premier League match against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium in London, England on 16 March, 2025.

Robert Sanchez suffered a head injury in Chelsea's defeat to Nottingham Forest.

The Spain international collided with Morgan Gibbs-White during the 3-1 reversal as Chelsea endured their fourth straight Premier League loss of the current campaign.

Sanchez had to be substituted midway through the second half of the Stamford Bridge encounter with Filip Jorgensen replacing him after the coming together.

The latest on Robert Sanchez's Chelsea availablity

His premature departure has now cast doubt over how much of the Blues' season run-in, which includes the FA Cup final against Manchester City on 16 May, he could miss.

Although Sanchez's withdrawal was not logged as a concussion substitution with the Premier League, he is a doubt for the Premier League showdown with Liverpool.

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea plan to follow concussion protocols ahead of their trip to Anfield in order to fully assess Sanchez's capability to return to goal.

Should the 28-year-old fail any of the test stages, he will be ordered to observe a rest period of at least 12 days under the Football Association's 'return to play' guidelines.

Chelsea have fallen 10 points off the pace in the battle for the final Champions League qualification place, but can still seal a Europa League or Conference League spot.

However, they could still secure a late entry into Europe's elite club competition via sixth place should Aston Villa finish in the top five and win the Europa League outright.

Calum McFarlane's side are currently just four points off sixth with three games to go.

McFarlane has taken interim charge of Chelsea for a second time this season following the departures of Enzo Maresca in January and Liam Rosenior at the end of April.

The 40-year-old failed to win his opening two games at the helm but booked the West Londoners' place in the FA Cup final thanks to a 1-0 win over Leeds United.

Chelsea face Liverpool, City, Tottenham and Sunderland in their final four games.
