PlayStation Network (PSN) is still struggling right now. As of 06.30am PT / 9.30am ET / 2.30pm BST it looks like we are still having problems playing games and using social aspects of PSN.
The outage earlier today had lasted hours but looked to be recovering a short while ago - now it seems problems persist and there are still issues with game streaming in particular on PS5.
Is PSN down?
Yes, PSN appears down and has been for many hours according to users across the globe. According to the official PlayStation Network service status page "some services are experiencing issues".
As you can see from the snapshot below, it's only the 'Gaming and social' section of the network that's currently affected (at time of writing), with PlayStation stating that "You might have difficulty launching games, apps or network features. We're working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience."
For example, you can still make account changes, access the PS Store, or use PlayStation Direct; perfect if you are still contemplating a PS5 Pro pre-order or checking on the PS5 30th Anniversary DualSense pre-order, or wider PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection pre-order situations.
There has been no word from Sony on what caused it or the timeframe for a fix - but we will update this page as and when that comes.
What happened the last time PSN was down?
The last major outage occurred at 11:15 EDT / 16:15 BST on July 1, 2024 and affected PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PS Vita, and web services across the board.
The issues then also seemed to be global hitting locations around the world with status reports saying that it was affecting the US and UK, while users on social media in Japan, Spain, Germany, and France were all also posting about issues.
PlayStation's official service status page said that account management, gaming and social, PlayStation Video, and the PlayStation Store had all been affected and that 'some services are experiencing issues.'
As you can see from a snapshot below of the official PlayStation Network Service Status page, it did not look good, with issues affecting all facets of the ecosystem.
As to what caused the outage, we're not sure, but can report that it was fixed after just couple of hours.
