Hollyoaks has confirmed a tragic ending for Juliet Nightingale’s (Niamh Blackshaw) cancer storyline.
The actress, who has played Juliet on the Channel 4 soap for five years, confirmed her departure after Monday’s episode. We saw Juliet get told that there were no further options available in her battle against cancer.
Last year, we saw Juliet undergo treatment for Hodgkin’s lymphoma but the treatment didn’t work as she’d hoped. Doctors then told her that she needed a more intense form of chemo due to the aggressiveness of the cancer, which she received.

Juliet was then hoping to receive a stem cell transplant and more chemo in Birmingham but after getting a kidney infection, the operation was unable to take place. In an Instagram post this week, Niamh discussed that Juliet’s illness is terminal.
She said: “Juliet’s Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is now terminal. Over the next few weeks, you’ll see Juliet tell loved ones, live out her last days, and then she is going to die.”
Niamh then went on to discuss the campaign ‘#OdeToMyJuliet’. She said: “In a way to commemorate Juliet as a character, and to do something positive, we want to come together and share stories of loved ones who may have been touched by cancer.”
By using the hashtag #OdeToMyJuliet, people have been invited to share their stories on TikTok, where they can green-screen, duet and stitch the videos. They can also share a picture, video, or even a poem on Instagram.
Hundreds of gushing Instagram users commented on the Instagram post conveying their sadness for Juliet but also discussing their personal battles with cancer. One user said: “I’ve been through breast cancer and come out the other side in 2001. Third time of dealing with cancer #thirdtimelucky #hollyoaks #OdeToMyJuliet”.
Another user commented: “Niamh you’re incredible! Thank you so much for portraying this story with the care, sensitivity and detail it truly deserve”, while a third added: “Niamh your an inspiration for someone at such a young age to be as phenomenal as you, thankyou for showing us how incredibly talented you really are”.
