Is Harry Kane fit to start for England vs USA? Injury latest for World Cup fixture

It's the question on everybody's lips heading into England's clash with the USA on Friday evening.

At 3-0 up against Iran on Monday, Harry Kane trotted out for the second half with the hopes of scoring against the beleaguered opponents to get his World Cup campaign off to a flyer. Yet with 75 minutes on the clock, the Tottenham star hadn't added to his tally before being replaced by Callum Wilson. The Three Lions were 5-1 up, he'd registered two assists - job well done, you'd think.

But positivity soon turned to anxiety for England fans when it was revealed Kane was undergoing tests on an ankle injury picked up in the annihilation of Carlos Queiroz's men. And now, with the match against the USA on the horizon, we can begin to gather an insight as to whether Kane will be available.

Harry Kane injury latest for England vs USA

To the delight of a nation, it appears Kane will be available for the game against the enemy across the pond. Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford had said before the game that Kane had been looking good in training, giving England fans a boost that he would be back.

And, as reported on Thursday, there is now increased confidence that Kane will start against stars such as Sergino Dest and Tim Ream in defence.

Kane was seen to not have any protective equipment on his ankle, and thus fans can be assured that he is at least worthy of a place on the bench at a minimum - and as arguably the most important player in England's side, that can only be a good thing.

Kane will be gunning for another World Cup Golden Boot, having won the award in 2018 in Russia, and also being one goal shy of joint-winning the Euro 2020 award alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Patrik Schick.

What has Gareth Southgate said?

In in his pre-match press conference ahead of the USA clash, Southgate said: "Harry is good. It would be a brave decision to leave him out of the starting line-up!"
