Is Derrick Rose a Hall of Famer after retiring from the NBA? Let’s break it down.

Fair or not, Derrick Rose’s NBA career is always going to be framed as “What if?”

As in, what if the first overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls hadn’t dealt with knee problems that robbed him on the explosivity we saw from his incredible Rookie of the Year season through that MVP year in 2010-11?

Because what followed was less than what we had seen. The numbers went down, and eventually, he had to accept life as a sixth man and a role player.

But he settled into that role really nicely and there were some of those WOW D ROSE moments as he shuttled around from team to team.

I’d say 17.4 ppg and 5.2 apg in his career isn’t enough. Even with the MVP, the three All-Star Games and that Rookie of the Year award, he’s probably not a Hall of Famer.

But we will always remember Peak Derrick Rose and what might have been.
