Cruz Beckham sparked excitement among fans after appearing to tease a collaboration with the Spice Girls with even his mother Victoria Beckham joining in.
The 21-year-old singer shared what looked like album artwork on Instagram on Wednesday, blending an image of himself and his band, The Breakers, with a classic photo of the nineties girl group.
Suggesting a major crossover was on the way, Cruz told followers the long-awaited “reunion” was “finally happening” and hinted the Spice Girls would feature on his upcoming track Waste Your Pain.
He wrote: “it’s finally happening!!! we have delayed the release of waste your pain slightly, as the girls have now agreed to be a part of this song @spicegirls”.
Victoria Beckham, who rose to fame as Posh Spice, fuelled the speculation by commenting: “I’m warming up!”
However, fans soon realised the post was an April Fools’ Day prank rather than a genuine collaboration.
Cruz’s girlfriend, singer-songwriter Jackie Apostel, responded with crying-laughing emojis, while fans joined in on the joke with Spice Girls references including “When 2 Become 1” and “And we all wish this was true”.
While the collaboration may not be real, Cruz has been busy building momentum around his own music career.
Last week, he confirmed that he and his band The Breakers will take their For Your Love tour to North America this summer.
The singer has been performing across the UK ahead of the release of his debut album, including recent shows at The Courtyard Theatre in Hoxton.

Announcing the new dates in a video shared online, he said: “Hello fellow Breakers. We are very happy and proud to announce the second leg of the For Your Love tour.
“We’re coming to America and Canada. We’re excited to see you there so get your tickets now.”
The North American leg will begin in Washington DC on July 28 before heading to Brooklyn, Toronto, Chicago, Minneapolis and Seattle.
Further dates include Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles, before Cruz returns to the UK for additional shows.
Interest appears to be growing, with ticket marketplace viagogo reporting a 529 per cent surge in page views for the US tour on the day the dates were announced.
