H&M Home’s fall collection is back for round two, and it’s bringing back one of my all-time favorite textures: mid-century-style fluting. While the sleek, linear lines are hardly new — you probably remember fluting from floor-to-ceiling in your parents’ or grandparents’ mid-century homes — I’ve never seen it done quite like this (bring on the H&M sale).
As the days shorten and temps drop, layering becomes essential — clothes, colors, and yes, texture. Fluting, with its nostalgic charm, is, as Lisa Lahti, head of design at Hietakari, describes, “a timeless choice with references to both classic and mid-century styles," making it the ultimate cozy living room idea for fall. H&M Home is serving up the finish across a range of materials, from warm wood and colored glass to stoneware ceramics.
