Carlos Alcaraz is coming off an outstanding 2024 winning back-to-back Grand Slams at the French Open and Wimbledon. He has his eyes firmly focused on the 2025 Australian Open which would complete the calendar Grand Slam for him at the ripe old age of 21.
Alcaraz recently commented about Andy Murray coaching Novak Djokovic at the 2025 Australian Open. Though he was joking, could there be some truth in what he said?
What Carlos Alcaraz Said
Playing Novak Djokovic is a daunting task, but as Alcaraz noted, playing Djokovic in January 2025 with Murray as his coach will be like playing both tennis legends at the same time. He added that it will be “incredible for tennis.”
Alcaraz is 4-3 in his career against Djokovic. They met in the Paris Olympics, and Alcaraz lost in straight sets. Alcaraz is 2-1 in Grand Slams against Djokovic, defeating him in back-to-back years at Wimbledon (2023 and 2024).
Carlos Alcaraz only played Andy Murray two times in 2021. Murray won at Indian Wells, and Alcaraz won at Vienna.
Is Djokovic Unbeatable With Murray?
Novak Djokovic is sticking around the game to win more Grand Slams. After parting ways with Goran Ivanisevic as his coach in 2024, he essentially coached himself.
Djokovic did not win a Grand Slam in 2024, but he did win Olympic gold which was equally satisfying for him since it was the one hole on his voluminous resume.
Will Murray’s tutelage bring him more Grand Slam glory beginning at the Australian Open? Djokovic won 10 Australian Opens before teaming up with Murray.
No one knows how well or long the partnership will go in 2025. Murray has other plans next summer headlining a British theatre tour.
Tennis fans should enjoy it for as long as possible because it will be entertaining. Both Djokovic and Murray as players are known for on-court outbursts and comments directed at their teams. How well will Murray tolerate being on the other side of that treatment?
