You may think you're a born and bred Bristolian, but for most living in BS16, you actually 'live' in South Gloucestershire. The BS16 postcode includes areas such as, Downend, Emersons Green, Fishponds, Frenchay, Pucklechurch and Staple Hill. But while some parts come under the unitary council authority of Bristol, others come under South Gloucestershire.
Confused? Let us explain. South Gloucestershire was created back in 1996 from the northern section of the county of Avon. Towns in the unitary authority area include Chipping Sodbury, Yate, Filton, Patchway, Thornbury and Bradley Stoke. Filton, Patchway and Bradley Stoke all form part of the northern Bristol suburbs.
Bristol city lies between Somerset and Gloucestershire and has been politically administered by both counties in part at various times. However, Bristol is historically a county of its own and is titled the 'City and County of Bristol.'
But if you live in BS16, where does your heart lie? We want to know. If you would like to share your thoughts, fill out our survey below, or let us know in the comments section and we'll get this debate rolling.
