Irvine Meadow wary of being stung by insider info as Cumnock go for three in a row

Colin Spence is wary of being stung by insider knowledge as Irvine Meadow look to take out their Scottish Junior Cup frustration on Cumnock.

Tomorrow's league clash sees a return to Meadow Park for former player and manager Brian McGinty, now in the ‘Nock hot seat, and midfielder Ryan Carnwath who swapped sides only three weeks ago.

Co-boss Spence reckons the duo will be desperate to put one over their old club, ensuring a tough afternoon for Meadow as they look to bounce back from their heartbreaking Junior Cup exit at the hands of Auchinleck Talbot at the weekend.

But equally, he is looking forward to going toe-to-toe with the man he and James Latta succeeded in the Medda manager's role almost exactly two years ago.

Spence said: “Brian is a very good manager and I really enjoyed working under him during his time here.

“He’s very meticulous in his approach and looks at the finer details of the game.

“I spoke to him when he took the Cumnock job and told him I thought were in a false position because they have some real top players at this level.

“Brian is maybe starting to get his message across now because they’ve had back-to-back wins coming into this game.

“We only have three or four players left from Brian’s reign so he won’t know too much about us.

“But he will be able to lean on Ryan for some insider knowledge.

“From what I’ve heard Ryan has already made an impact at Cumnock so he will no doubt want to come to Meadow Park and prove a point.”

Spence is confident there will be no hangover from the Talbot defeat.

He said: “I think the players will take the positives from the game once the dust settles.

“We pushed a top team all the way and we have to take belief from that.”

Tomorrow's game has a 2.30pm kick off.
