Irishman reunited with wallet in Dublin Airport after epic adventure on New York-bound Aer Lingus flight

Irish people have described the epic saga of one man's lost wallet as "the best docu drama they've invested in for ages".

Cian Hogan lost his wallet on ⁦an Aer Lingus flight inbound to Dublin Airport from JFK in New York City.

Luckily he has an Apple Air Tag which allows him to track its whereabouts, meaning he was able to follow the wallet's journey.

Taking to Twitter, Cian issued an appeal on the off-chance that someone on the return flight might spot the item.

He said: "Hey Twitter. Lost my wallet on ⁦@AerLingus flight EI104 inbound from JFK. The wallet is now heading back east towards the USA!

"On the off chance anyone is onboard, it’s near seat 3A front of the plane left hand side. Appreciate a retweet. Thanks!!"

The message quickly gained traction from social media users, with many becoming extremely invested as Cian shared updates on the wallet's transatlantic trip.

Among the updates were the wallet's trip over the Atlantic, its arrival in JFK, and then how it was "on the move again".

He was eventually reunited with his cards and cash on Sunday morning in Dublin Airport which was a huge relief for everyone following the saga.

Cian said: "Final update. The wallet is home. Thanks so much to everyone. Had such a laugh last night following the thread! Irish twitter can be so funny!"

People had been sharing their hilarious responses to the story as the wallet made its way to New York and back again.

One person said: "I'm down with plague and I'm sick of TV and Netflix. I had a great nights entertainment with #WalletGate. "Calling Mr. Cians Wallet, @AerLingus EI104 to Dublin, please go to gate 78 immediately"... Amazon will probably commission the movie!"

A second wrote: "Your wallet has travelled more in 24hrs then I have in 2.5yrs...very jealous. Glad its back."

A third commented: "Apple owes you shares!! The amount of people now ordering air tags because of your tweets!! They better send you something nice. You're like an ambassador now for Apple and Aer Lingus."
