Irish weather: Temperatures to soar to 21C in some areas today before major turn for the worse

Ireland is set to bask in glorious sunshine again today, Saturday 13 May, with some areas enjoying temperatures of up to 21C before a major turn.

While it's not quite a heatwave, temperatures have soared in Ireland over the past couple of days and that's set to continue today, though it won't last much longer.

Limerick looks like it will be the warmest county on Saturday, according to Met Eireann's air temperature forecast, while eastern coastal counties will remain cooler, though marginally so.

It will be a stunning day in most areas but enjoy the sunshine while you can because the weather is expected to take a turn for the worse overnight.

Sunday will see temperatures drop to as low as 11C, with plenty of cloud and scattered showers, particularly over the eastern half of Ireland.

"Foggy in places this morning," a Met Eireann spokesperson said of Saturday. "Especially in parts of the north and east, but this will gradually clear leaving a dry day with spells of sunshine, though fog may linger along some coasts. There is the chance of an isolated shower this afternoon. Turning cloudier in the west later. Warm with highest temperatures of 16 to 21 degrees in a light variable breeze.

"Dry to start tonight with clear spells but it will quickly turn cloudier with rain spreading from the west overnight. Parts of the southeast will remain dry until morning. Temperatures not falling below 7 to 10 degrees in a light to moderate southwesterly breeze.

"Cloudy tomorrow morning with outbreaks of rain over the eastern half of the country. Drier further west with sunny spells and scattered light showers developing, extending to all areas through the morning and early afternoon. Noticeably cooler with highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in moderate, occasionally fresh, northwest winds."
