Irish players enjoy successful weekend in UK

It was a positive week for Republic of Ireland players overseas as Jayson Molumby, Ryan Manning and Promise Omochere scored for their respective sides.

Celtic youngster Rocco Vata also made an appearance for the Scottish champions as the future looks bright for the Boys in Green.

Overall, Stephen Kenny will be keeping watch as he drafts his Ireland squad ahead of Euro 2024 qualifying matches against Greece and Gibraltar in June.

Jayson Molumby v Stoke City

Molumby was able to play a key role for West Brom after returning to the lineup following a groin injury and required a painkilling injection to get over ankle pain.

The Republic of Ireland international scored twice in quick succession in the second half as Carlos Corberan's team rallied to defeat Stoke City 2-1.

"I think the personality and the goals that he has are very huge," Corberan said following Molumby's brace.

"The commitment that he has with himself, with the club, with the team, he was playing today with a lot of pain in the ankle.

"He was having to have an injection to play today, yesterday he couldn't complete training, only half, but he is going to make a career because he has the determination to make it.

"Some people with adversity – they give up! And Molumby is not going to do that."

Ryan Manning v Huddersfield Town

Manning gave the Swansea supporters a likely farewell gift by beating relegation-threatened Huddersfield at the Swansea.com Stadium in the 69th minute.

The wing-back for the Republic of Ireland has declined a contract extension and is expected to leave in the summer.

However, the 26-year-old demonstrated in the 1-0 win over Town that he is still a crucial part of the Swans team.

Swansea won their fourth game in a row thanks to his fifth goal of the year, and the fans applauded by singing "we want you to stay."

Rocco Vata v Ross County

Ange Postecoglou brought on Irish underage international Vata in the 69th minute in Celtic's 4-1 win away to Kilmarnock, with youngster Ben Summers making his debut.

Vata made his third senior appearance for the Scottish champions as they edge closer to retaining their title.

"Ben and Rocco, and Bosun Lawal, have trained with us for quite a while," he said.

"It's about earning their opportunities. We have people out and Rocco came on and did a good job."

Promise Omochere v Fleetwood Town

Omochere scored as Fleetwood Town defeated 10-man Accrington Stanley 5-2 in League One on Saturday.

After Liam Coyle was dismissed for the hosts, the 22-year-old Dubliner struck their third goal of the afternoon.

The former Bohemians attacker has six goals in 30 appearances this season, as Fleetwood rise up to 14th in the table.
