Dangers from codeine-containing medicines were not being spelled out clearly enough in the packaging, a new report has claimed.
The Irish Health Products Regulatory Authority is leading an EU investigation of controversial combination painkillers, the Irish Mirror reports. The newly published report follows research on serious adverse reactions – including fatalities – for people who had developed dependence on the drugs.
According to the report there was also a risk of severe kidney damage from long-term use of over the counter medication containing codeine.
