Irish driver 'won't make it to next set of lights' as petrol station receipt goes viral

One customer at an Irish petrol station was shocked when they saw how much the person before them had spent - and not because it was steep.

“Whoever was before is definitely only making it to the next set of lights,” they joked.

Many people on social media were shocked by the amount one road user spent on petrol after a picture was posted on Twitter showing a sale of just €5.01.

This amount managed to get the customer 2.80 litres of petrol.

The original poster of the Tweet, named Nicole, said: “Whoever was before is definitely only making it to the next set of lights."

Some pointed out it could have been a moped or a lawnmower ((Image: Twitter))

Many users of the social media site were quick to comment on the small sale. One said: “In my car, that would get me to pump 5.”

“I remember as a kid my parents survived on 5e petrol top-ups. They got days out of it. Now, it wouldn't get you home,” another said.

Others pointed out that it could have been a moped or even a lawnmower being filled up.

“I got a fiver of petrol earlier for the lawnmower, maybe this person done the same,” one person tweeted.

Another said: “My 350cc motorbike will travel 70 or 80km on that much petrol.”

“I’ve a 125 Vespa & costs me €7 to fill the tank - on average pop €4-6 in. They call me ‘big spender’ every time I go in,” one joked.

One Twitter user even joked that it could have been used to fill a Zippo lighter.

However, others thought the sale represented a much bigger issue.

“That's actually sad to see. Might not be able to afford any more petrol,” one said.

Another wrote: “That’s just someone trying to get by to the next wage without the car breaking down. Sad to see really.”
