An Irish community has been left devastated following the death of a 21-month-old child in Co Roscommon on Friday.
Brandon Thomas Byrne sadly passed away after he was struck by a jeep near Ballinagare shortly after 9am.
His family from Clonsilla in Co Dublin had been holidaying in the area at the time and were reportedly asleep when the child left his bed and wandered out of the house and onto the road.
Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene, but despite best efforts, Brandon was pronounced dead a short time later.
His body was taken to University Hospital Galway, where a post-mortem took place.
The toddler will be reposing at his home on Monday evening from 6pm before removal Tuesday morning to the Church of St Philip the Apostle, Mountview, Clonsilla, for Mass of the Angels at 10am. Followed by burial in Mulhuddart Cemetery.
A funeral notice reads: "Brandon Thomas Byrne, Clonsilla, Dublin 15, aged 21 months, passed peacefully surrounded by his family who love and cherish him, 19th August 2022.
"Brandon, the most beautiful little light and adorable son of Louise Kehir and Andrew Byrne and cherished grandson of James, Noelene and Fran.
"Predeceased by his grandmother Margaret and aunt Siobhán.
"Sadly missed by his heartbroken parents, grandparents, his uncles Richard and Mark, relatives, friends and neighbours."
Tributes have poured in for the tot as people remembered Brandon as a "beautiful, precious little boy".
One person who offered up their sympathies to the family wrote: "Louise and Andrew and all your family. I'm truly heartbroken for you on the tragic loss of your beautiful precious little boy. I pray that you'll find strength and consolation to cope with your terrible loss. In my thoughts and prayers always."
A second said: "My heart skipped a beat when I heard the horrific news of the accident just a few km from our home. You are in a place no parent could ever imagine being, I'm so so sorry this has happened. Sleep well baby Brandon. Louise&Andrew, please take comfort in the fact that Brandon knew nothing but love in his short life. Sending you so much love & strength xxx".
"Sending you the most sincere condolences on the passing of your beautiful Brandon. He will be forever watching and guiding you through this difficult time and through your lives. Leaba i measc na n-aingeal dó," wrote a fourth.
While a fourth said: "I am so shocked and saddened to hear about this tragic event. Brandon was a beautiful little boy who will get the best bed in heaven. I wish you all so much strength and healing in the years ahead with your angel watching over you. Rest in eternal peace Brandon xxx"
