Irish actress and Happy Valley star Charlie Murphy to set pulses racing in steamy new Netflix thriller

Former Love/Hate star Charlie Murphy is set to get pulses racing in her new erotic thriller, Obsession.

The Netflix series, which airs on April 13, is a steamy drama starring Richard Armitage as William, Wexford star Charlie as Anna, Indira Varma as Ingrid and Rish Shah as Jay, while major roles are also filled by Pippa Bennett-Warner, Sonera Angel, Anil Goutam and Marion Bailey.

The synopsis for the series reads: "An intense affair between a talented surgeon (Armitage) and his son’s fiancée (Murphy) spirals into a dangerous, all-consuming obsession, with devastating consequences for the whole family."

In the trailer, we see the first meeting between William and Anna, with William suggesting his son Jay was nervous about introducing them. Meanwhile, William's wife Ingrid worries that Jay is obsessed with Anna – little does she know that her husband is, too.

Obsession is based on the 1991 novel Damage by Josephine Hart, with the scripts being written by Morgan Lloyd-Malcolm and Benji Walters.

The novel was previously adapted into 1992 film Damage, which starred Jeremy Irons, Juliette Binoche, Miranda Richardson, Rupert Graves and Ian Bannen, and saw Richardson win a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

Enniscorthy native Charlie is best known for her role as Siobhan Delaney in Love/Hate. She also picked up a Best Actress in a Lead Role at the 2015 Irish Film and Television Awards for the role.

She won two more IFTA Awards, one for Best Actress in a Supporting Role as Ann Gallagher in the BBC One drama series Happy Valley, and another in 2018 for Best Actress in a Supporting Role as Jessie Eden in the Peaky Blinders.
