Ireland weather timeline as Met Eireann gives interesting verdict on Easter bank holiday weekend

Met Eireann has given its verdict on what weather Ireland can expect over the Easter bank holiday weekend.

With Easter Sunday now a week away, the latest long-range forecast paints an interesting picture.

Forecasters say a “somewhat varied” week of weather is coming up, as passing weather fronts bring a mix of conditions.

High pressure is set to dominate with anticyclones located to the east of Ireland impacting the weather at both the beginning and end of the week. This indicates more settled conditions during these periods.

At this stage, Met Eireann says of the Easter bank holiday weekend: ”Current indications suggest a mostly settled end to the working week, with mostly dry and calm conditions expected for Friday and the early weekend.”

Mid-week is expected to turn more unsettled - but overall the national forecaster says rainfall will stay below average, while temperatures will stay above average.

Its overall forecast for the week of Monday, April 3 to Sunday, April 9 reads: “Ireland’s weather will be somewhat varied in Week 1. Overall, high pressure will dominate with anticyclones located to the east of the country around the beginning and end of the week. The mid-week will turn more unsettled with some passing weather fronts expected, although the overall rainfall accumulations will stay slightly below average for early April. Temperatures will be somewhat above average while the winds will be predominantly westerly or southwesterly.”

In the meantime, next week is expected to start dull with patchy rain moving in mid-week.

Giving a day by day breakdown, Met Eireann said: “A bright start Sunday for much of the western half of the country this morning, cloudier further east, with hazy sunny spells developing in most areas through the day. Mostly dry with just isolated spots of light rain or drizzle possible in the east and southeast. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in light variable breezes, becoming southerly later

“Mostly clear and dry overnight Sunday, becoming cloudier in the west and southwest before morning. Light or moderate southwest winds, fresher winds near some Atlantic coasts. A chilly night with lows of 0 to 5 degrees, coldest in the midlands.

“Quite cloudy Monday with the brightest weather in the north and east, especially during the morning. A mostly dry day for many, however there will be some patchy drizzle in places. Rain will likely turn more persistent along western coasts in the evening. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees, with moderate to fresh southerly winds.

“Mostly cloudy overnight Monday with some rain or drizzle in the west and north, mainly dry in the east. Breezy along western coasts, with southerly winds largely easing light elsewhere. Lows of 4 to 7 degrees, coldest in the southeast of the country.

“A cloudy day Tuesday with outbreaks of rain or drizzle, driest in the east with rain most persistent in the west. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees, with mostly moderate southwesterly winds.

“Rain will continue to push in from the west overnight Tuesday. The rain will clear from the west with clear spells and scattered showers developing by dawn. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees with light to moderate southwesterly winds.

“Cloudy to start Wednesday with some rain in most areas, driest towards the southeast of the country. Clearing to sunny spells and scattered showers later in the day. Light to moderate southwest breezes. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees.

“A mostly cloudy start on Thursday with patchy rain or drizzle clearing to sunny spells and scattered showers. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees with light northerly or variable breezes.

“Current indications suggest a mostly settled end to the working week, with mostly dry and calm conditions expected for Friday and the early weekend.”
