Met Eireann has said that parts of the country could see flooding this weekend as further rainfall is on the way.
The national forecaster also confirmed that Ireland is no longer at risk of extreme weather from Hurricane Martin.
Rain is set to hit the country this weekend, and though it won’t be torrential, it looks set to cause some flooding in parts.

Met Eireann has issued an advisory for all of Ireland as further rainfall will cause localised flooding as a result of “waterlogged soils and high river levels”. Showers and wet conditions are expected, but meteorologist Paul Downes told the Irish Mirror that they do not expect to issue any weather warnings.
“That being said, with the ground being saturated, as it is around the country at the moment with those heavy showers or rainfalls, there is that potential for flooding,” he said.
“Once the ground is saturated, the water can flow out very quickly. There have been instances of that over the past couple of days, where the rainfall itself wasn’t an issue as far as warning, but the flooding was the issue.”
The risk of flooding will continue into next week.
Parts of Ireland have already seen spot flooding, including Gorey, Wexford, which was heavily hit last night. Motorists were advised to avoid the area on Thursday night as roads became impassable.
This comes as Hurricane Martin has been absorbed, no longer posing a threat to Ireland. While we may see unsettled conditions, these are not unusual for this time of year.
Downes said: “Hurricane Martin is now gone. It’s been absorbed into an upper-level low pressure out on the mid-Atlantic.
“It doesn’t mean, though, that part of that energy is not going to affect our weather over the next few days, but it’s not going to directly affect us as of now really.”
Temperatures will stay between 10 and 13 degrees today, dropping to between five and 10 overnight.
