Ireland weather: Met Eireann's five-day forecast shows arrival of stunning Bank Holiday sunshine for three areas

Met Eireann’s latest five-day forecast shows some stunning sunshine arriving in three areas on Friday - just in time to kick off the bank holiday weekend.

The east, southeast, and south all look set to basque in clear skies and sunshine with highs of 12 degrees expected.

Elsewhere across the country will be sunny with some cloudy skies and temperatures will be at their highest in the western parts.

Before the glorious weekend, however, there will be quite a lot of rain and drizzle for most, according to Met Eireann:

Today

A dry day for most today with a mix of cloud and hazy sunny spells. Some spots of light rain and drizzle will occur, most frequent along Atlantic counties, extending further inland in the west and northwest during the afternoon and evening.

Highest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees in moderate to fresh south to southeast winds, easing by the evening.

Becoming cloudy over the western half of the country overnight with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Temperatures there not falling below 4 to 7 degrees in moderate to fresh southerly winds.

Staying mostly dry further east with clear spells allowing temperatures to fall between 1 and 5 degrees in lighter winds.

Tuesday

Dry in many areas for much of the day tomorrow with a mix of cloud and some sunny spells. A few spots of light rain and drizzle will occur, mainly in the west and northwest.

More persistent rain will develop in the west during the afternoon, slowly extending eastwards. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in mostly moderate southwest winds, fresher in the west and northwest.

A wet night as persistent rain extends eastwards across the country by morning, turning heavy in places. Temperatures not falling below 6 to 9 degrees in mostly moderate southerly winds.

Wednesday

A wet start to the day with widespread rain, heavy in places with localised spot flooding possible.

A clearance to sunny spells and scattered showers will develop in the west by early afternoon, gradually extending eastwards across the country by evening as moderate southwesterly winds veer westerly. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees.

A mix of cloud and clear spells overnight. Mainly dry as well with just a few light showers. Lowest temperatures generally of 1 to 5 degrees in light to moderate west to northwest winds.

Thursday

Good sunny spells with just a few light showers. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in light to moderate west to northwest breezes.

Dry overnight with clear spells. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees with frost forming in places. Light winds will also allow some mist and fog to form.

Friday

A dry day with plenty of sunny spells, turning hazy at times. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees with moderate southeasterly winds developing.

As for the rest of the bank holiday weekend, the Irish forecasters currently state that it will be largely dry with good sunny spells and just some showers. The highest temperatures will generally range 11 to 13 degrees.
