The stunning summer sunshine seen across the country on Monday is due to come to an abrupt end for many on Tuesday.
Forecasts show an end to clear skies tomorrow morning with the arrival of rain and cloudy conditions - which look set to last for the rest of the week.
Dull and damp conditions are expected from Tuesday with outbreaks of light rain or drizzle clearing southwards through the morning.
It will remain mostly cloudy through the afternoon, with some scattered showers developing, “although there will be occasional bright or sunny spells mixed in too,” according to the Irish forecaster.
Afternoon temperatures will range from 15 to 19 degrees in mostly light northwesterly breezes.
On Wednesday, it will be mostly cloudy to start as some patchy drizzle moves over the country.
The clouds will break up as the morning unfolds to give most areas a bright dry and sunny afternoon.
Highest temperatures will hit 21 degrees in some areas and will be coldest in the northwest and warmest in the southeast.
Thursday will be quite cloudy with some patchy outbreaks of light rain or drizzle at times, mostly in the west during the morning, but it will become drier and brighter later in the afternoon and evening.
Highest temperatures will range from 17 to 21 degrees and will be warmest in the southeast.
As for the end of the week, Met Eireann says: “It looks like the weather will change on Friday with rain spreading from the west through the day, followed by cooler showery weather through the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 in light to moderate southerly winds.”
Heading into the weekend, “Current indications suggest that next weekend will be unsettled with low pressure dominating the weather over Ireland, bringing showers or longer spells of rain with temperatures in the mid to high teens and light-moderate variable breezes.”
