Ireland is set for a windy day as the remnants of Storm Alex batters the Northwest bringing strong gales and some ‘nasty’ heavy showers.
A Status Yellow Gale Warning from Slyne Head to Rossan Point to Malin Head will remain in place until 4am Saturday.
However, things look set to improve this afternoon as sunny spells break through.

A forecaster said: “The remnants of Storm Alex can be seen on the satellite out to the Northwest of Ireland now. It will bring some very windy weather over Ireland tomorrow and Saturday and also some nasty heavy showers crossing the country tomorrow afternoon.”
They added: “A potential window for some silage from tomorrow evening to Tuesday, especially in the Southeast with most of the showers at weekend further Northwest. Sunny spells and strong winds helping after the showers though.”

Today
Windy and blustery today with widespread showers mixed with bright or sunny intervals. Some showers will turn heavy with the chance of isolated thunderstorms this afternoon.
Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees in fresh or strong and gusty southwesterly winds.
Showers will continue overnight and may become prolonged towards morning in parts of the Northwest.
Good clear spells elsewhere with the showers more isolated.
Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees. Moderate or fresh southwest breezes.
Saturday, June 11
Tomorrow, Saturday will bring further widespread showers or longer spells of rain with some sunny spells too. The odd heavy downpour can be expected.
Highest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees. Breezy or windy again with fresh or strong southwest winds veering westerly. Winds easing in most places in the evening.
Becoming drier overnight on Saturday night with clear spells and isolated showers.
Winds will ease to a light or moderate westerly breeze. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees.
Sunday, June 12
Showers will be lighter on Sunday and more scattered than on previous days, with good dry and bright or sunny spells in between.
Highest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees with a fresh westerly breeze, decreasing moderate later.
Mainly dry on Sunday night with a few showers in western areas and varying cloud cover. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees with winds easing light.
Monday, June 13
Monday will bring a lot of dry weather with just well scattered showers. Cloud cover will vary with some brighter spells at times.
Highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees with a moderate southwest breeze.
A spell of rain looks likely to move into the Northwest on Monday night.
Tuesday, June 14
Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain or drizzle over Connacht and Ulster.
The wet weather is currently predicted to become more widespread across the country on Tuesday night and Wednesday, with brighter drier conditions set to follow later on.
Current indications suggest rather changeable conditions for the further outlook but with generally improving temperatures.
