Met Eireann has predicted much warmer conditions on the way this week which are very unusual for the time of year.
Some areas of Ireland are due to reach 17 degrees celsius as a ‘dome of warmth’ moves across the country.
Ireland and the UK are due to experience similar effects as a result of this plume of heat heading towards both countries in the form of a rare winter high-pressure system.
From tomorrow, Thursday, things will be windy but mild with highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees being felt.
The overview for the remainder of the week shows “very mild and blustery up until the weekend with outbreaks of rain, becoming persistent and occasionally heavy with an ongoing risk of localised flooding.”
Thursday night will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain - most persistent and heavy in Connacht and Ulster, but it will be patchier elsewhere.
It’ll be another very mild night with lowest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees, in moderate to fresh south to southwest winds.
Friday: Another mild, cloudy, and windy day with outbreaks of rain, most persistent and heaviest over the western half of the country with localised flooding possible. Highest temperatures of 14 to 16 degrees in fresh and blustery southerly winds.
Friday night will be another cloudy one with outbreaks of rain continuing, however, they will generally become lighter and patchier as the night progresses.
It will continue to be very mild with lowest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees however southerly winds will ease moderate to light.
Saturday will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle in the west during the morning. However, it will turn drier with sunny spells away from the south coast during the afternoon.
Highest temperatures will range from 13 to 15 degrees in moderate southeasterly winds.
Saturday night will be mostly dry with just some drizzle on higher ground and lowest temperatures will range from 9 to 12 degrees in mostly moderate southeasterly winds.
Closing out the week then, Sunday will be fairly cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle and highest temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees in moderate southeasterly winds.
Beyond this date, the Irish forecaster says: “It looks like it will remain unsettled next week with sustained chances of wet and windy conditions, while temperatures will pull back closer to average.”
