Ireland weather: 'Fresher' conditions on the way after heavy rain showers in cracking Met Eireann update

Things will feel "fresher" than normal later in the week - but we have to get through some heavy rain showers first.

That's the latest prediction from Met Éireann, who have been on the money in their forecasting recently, and published their latest prediction on Wednesday morning.

And it's looking like another cracking few days as we head towards the weekend, with very little rain once we manage to make it through some spells of bad precipitation on Wednesday.

Today will see "a mix of scattered showers and sunny spells" but some of those showers will be very heavy as we head into the afternoon and evening.

But there's positive news as things should calm down later in the day, particularly in the south and west - and it'll still be a balmy 16 to 20 degrees.

And in better news, that seems to be the last of the really heavy precipitation (at least for a couple of days) as Thursday will be "dry in many areas with just isolated showers, mainly in the west and north."

The national forecast even says it'll be "fresher than of late" as temperatures return to what we're usually used to seeing in August, with highs of 14 to 18 degrees.

Meanwhile, Friday will see "a good deal of dry weather overall with some sunshine breaking through and scattered showers, most frequent in the north and west. Highest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees in a light to moderate northwest breeze."
