Met Eireann’s latest forecast confirms the arrival of snow, sleet, and hail as temperatures take a big dip and warnings are put in place.
According to the Irish forecasters, “An Arctic airmass will bring sharp to severe frosts with ice on footpaths and roads. Showers of hail, sleet, snow, and freezing rain are likely with fog and possibly freezing fog towards the weekend.”
Meteorologist Andrew Doran Sherlock warned that “the most severe impacts will be on driving conditions which could be treacherous in places on Thursday morning, particularly during commute times”.

Meanwhile, the entire country is under two weather warnings across Thursday and Friday this week, one for ice and the other, a low-temperature alert.
The public is advised that ‘hazardous conditions’ are expected as “a band of wintry precipitation will sink southwards with the potential for black ice/freezing rain on surfaces” and “a sharp to severe frost with icy surfaces, as temperatures widely fall to - 4 degrees Celsius”.
As for today, Wednesday, it’ll be a cold start this morning with frost, icy stretches, and some fog patches.
Many areas will have a dry day with spells of crisp winter sunshine, however, there will be a few showers in northern and northwestern coastal counties, some of hail or sleet. Highest temperatures will range from just 2 to 6 degrees in light or moderate northerly breezes.
There will be another icy start on Thursday with patches of freezing fog in places as a band of wintry showers over Ulster will track gradually southwards over the country.
Some accumulations of snow are possible, especially in Midland counties and over high ground leading to hazardous travel conditions.
Friday will begin very cold with icy stretches, some lying snow, and patches of freezing fog. Much of the country will be dry with sunshine developing.
Wintry showers will affect some Atlantic coastal counties, possibly heavy or thundery near the coast. Top temperatures will range from 0 to +3 degrees in light northwest or variable winds.
This will be followed by a very cold day on Saturday with frost and ice lingering through much of the day along with some patches of freezing fog.
It will be dry for many but a few wintry showers will occur alongside highest temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees in light, variable winds.
Widespread frost and ice is expected on Friday and Saturday night and although it will be mostly dry there will be some freezing fog and lowest temperatures of -5 to zero degrees.
Sunday will see temperatures struggling to rise above freezing for most of Sunday with frost, ice, and freezing fog persisting throughout the day.
It will be mainly dry apart from isolated showers in some coastal margins and highest temperatures of -2 to +2 degrees are expected in light, variable winds.
There will be more widespread frost and ice overnight with lows ranging from -6 to -2 degrees, and it will be largely dry apart from isolated wintry showers.
