The Irish men's team are coming home from Toulouse with silver medals from the rugby sevens world series today.
While they eventually came up short to world-leaders in the condensed game in Fiji by a scoreline of 29-17, James Topping's squad can reflect on more new ground broken for the Irish setup having previously qualified for our debut Olympics last year.
They comprehensively defeated hosts France 24-7 early in the afternoon - even leading to some bad tempered behaviour from the losers towards the end.
That win cemented a brilliant weekend for them having seen off Argentina and Spain respectively on Saturday.
Speaking after the semi-final win over the French, Mark Roche described it as “a dream come true”.
Meanwhile there was disappointment for the women's team as they came unstuck at the same stage as they were hammered 40-7 by Australia.
And they then also lost out to their Fijian counterparts 26-10 in the bronze medal game.
