Ireland's most battered bridge claims another victim in box truck smash

Ireland's most battered bridge has claimed yet another victim in a truck smash.

The Shanty Bridge on Blakestown Road in Mulhuddart is infamous for being the bane of countless trucks and lorries over the years. The bridge took yet another vehicle down after a box truck crashed into the low-hanging overpass.

An image shared by Ireland's Most Battered Bridge Facebook page shows the crumpled-up remains of the truck with the caption: "The box truck slayer strikes again." One amused local said: "Can we start a GoFundMe for the bridge to buy a speaker and a copy of Britney Spears' 'Hit Me Baby One More Time'."

Another person said: "More hits than the mafia." A third person said: "Can Fingal please put a live feed camera on both sides so we can sit and watch."

A sign displaying the bridge's 2.6m height was added to the bridge but it still hasn't stopped drivers from accidentally smashing into it. Dublin Live has contacted the gardai for a comment.
