Ireland legend Liam Brady claimed as English on flag outside Arsenal's Emirates Stadium

Republic of Ireland legend Liam Brady has bizarrely been claimed as English in a flag outside Arsenal's stadium.

The Gunners great, who won 72 Irish caps, was referred to as a midfielder from England on a large flag outside the Emirates in London.

Brady was one of a number of Arsenal legends on flags outside the stadium along with the likes of Patrick Viera and George Armstrong, who made more than 600 appearances for the club.

But the Brady flag has since been removed after Drogheda native Noel Synnott highlighted the awful error on social media.

Sharing a picture on Twitter, Noel wrote: "I didn’t know Liam Brady played for England."

After the tweet was liked over 1,400 times, Noel shared another snap the following day showing that the flag had been removed.

Brady made 235 appearances for Arsenal between 1973 and 1980 before moving to Italy where he played for Juventus, Sampdoria, Inter Milan and Ascoli before finishing his career with West Ham.

After hanging up his boots, Brady had spells as manager at both Celtic and Brighton before becoming Giovanni Trapattoni's assistant with the Republic of Ireland many years later.

The 66-year-old former midfielder has also been a regular pundit on RTE's football coverage for well over 20 years, appearing alongside Johnny Giles, Eamon Dunphy and presenter Bill O'Herlihy for the majority of those years.
