We’re already a quarter of the way through 2023 and as we edge closer to the summer months we will soon see much brighter evenings and hopefully warmer weather.
Summer holidays are already on the minds of many people who may be tempted to use public holidays to make the most of booking time off work.
The vast majority of employees are entitled to paid leave for them under the Organisation of Working Time Act, while schools also close.

Ireland has 10 bank holidays this year and three have fallen already - New Year’s Day, St Brigid’s Day and St Patrick’s Day.
This year saw the introduction of a new bank holiday for St Brigid’s Day. Going forward, it will be held annually on the first Monday in February.
The next public holiday falls on Easter Monday, April 10.
Good Friday, which is on April 7 this year, is not a bank holiday and is a normal working day. However, banks will be closed and some schools and businesses may also give workers and students an extra day off.
After Easter, there is only a few weeks until the May bank holiday, which is on Monday, May 1 this year.
