Ireland back drinking Guinness in droves as sales jump 71%

The nation is back guzzling pints of Guinness by the gallon giving its maker a massive 18% profit to €5.5 billion in the past year.

Spirits group Diageo also saw its Irish sales across its product range increase by more than 71% in the year - wiping out a Covid-related decline in 2021 and mostly driven by sales of the stout.

The booze brand’s massive profits are off the back of the pub sector’s recovery and “resilient consumer demand” for off-sales.
