Lacey Purciful was ecstatic. Her pizza had arrived, hot and fresh, and she was ready to dig in.
Even her dog, Max, was excited — the small pet raced to greet DoorDash driver Corey as Purciful opened her front door.
But Corey wasn't thrilled. In fact, he felt slighted.
That's because Purciful had given him a $5 tip on a $20 order.
Corey felt he deserved more, and he believed Purciful could have easily given him more.
"I just wanna say, it's a nice house for a $5 tip," he could be heard saying on doorbell camera footage Purciful posted to TikTok.
Taken aback, she responded by saying, "You're welcome."
"F*** you," he replied.
Purciful is a disabled military veteran who suffered injuries to her spinal cord in a car crash a few months ago.
She posted the scene in another series of TikToks.
The accident has paved the way toward a reliance on delivery services for food, since the mother of two can't stand anymore after the incident, she told the Daily Mail.
She said she worked in the restaurant industry for years before she joined the military, too, which is why she considers herself "a very good tipper."
Purciful asked her TikTok viewers how much she should be tipping, captioning her video, "So how much should I be tipping for a $20 Pie??"
Many commenters said she had been more than generous enough.
"Well $4 is actually 20% gratuity that's normally a good tip anything over is being very nice," said @tayiah_21.
"Any tip is being nice. They are paying for a service, tips are for exceeding that paid service. He should have got a $20 pizza to the face tip," replied @imcryptorich.
"I would be going on the app and taking it back," said @pumpkin_828. Many agreed with the sentiment.
Purciful did end up calling DoorDash, she said in the comments section of another video sharing the interaction. But while the company gave her a $5 credit on her account, they didn't take the money away from Corey.
Instead, they fired him.
"Respectfully asking for a tip is acceptable, but abusing or harassing someone is never acceptable," they wrote in a statement to The Mirror. "We've removed this Dasher from our platform and reached out to the customer."
"Our rules exist to help ensure everyone who uses our platform - Dashers, customers, merchants - have a safe and enjoyable experience," the message continued. "We expect everyone to treat others with respect and we will enforce our rules fairly and consistently."
Purciful believes sexism might have played a role in the interaction.
"I wonder if he woulda said the same thing to my husband??" she wrote in the comments of the viral video.
Many other commenters expressed their frustration with DoorDash as a company.
User @dogmama.97's comment seemed to sum up their views: "I wish companies would just pay their workers fairly so tipping wouldn't be such a big deal."
Purciful's TikTok garnered over 3 million likes and 164,700 comments.
