Iraq Accuses Israel Of Violating Airspace In Iran Strikes

Members of the civil defence stand near a damaged site after what Syrian and Iranian media described as an Israeli air strike on Iran's consulate in the Syrian capital Damascus

Recent events have sparked tensions in the Middle East as Iraq accuses the Israeli military of violating its airspace during a series of strikes on Iran. The Iraqi government has taken action by sending a letter of protest to the United Nations to condemn the alleged breach.

In a statement issued on Monday, an Iraqi government spokesperson emphasized Iraq's commitment to sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. The spokesperson stated that Iraq will not permit its airspace or land to be used for attacks on other nations, particularly neighboring countries with whom Iraq shares mutual respect and interests.

Israel conducted the strikes on military targets inside Iran in response to earlier Iranian attacks, heightening concerns of a potential escalation in the ongoing conflict between the two nations. When questioned about the use of Iraqi airspace, the Israeli military declined to provide further details beyond what had already been disclosed.

Iran has accused Israel of utilizing Iraqi airspace for the attacks and has implicated the US in the matter. However, the US has clarified that while it was informed about the strikes, it was not directly involved in the operation.

According to the Iraqi government's statement, the country's prime minister has instructed the foreign ministry to address the alleged Israeli violation with US officials. The situation remains fluid, and further developments are awaited as diplomatic efforts are underway to address the escalating tensions in the region.
