Iran warns of ‘decisive’ response after fresh US strikes

  • The US launched fresh strikes around the Strait of Hormuz early on Wednesday, targeting Iranian weapon sites and air defence systems, in response to recent attacks on three commercial vessels.
  • Iran condemned the US actions as a breach of a memorandum of understanding signed in June and warned of taking “decisive measures” in response.
  • US Central Command said its forces struck over 80 targets, including command-and-control networks, coastal radar sites, anti-ship missile capabilities, and more than 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps small boats.
  • Iranian state media reported explosions in several southern Iranian locations, including Sirik and Qeshm Island, claiming most strikes hit civilian areas and caused injuries.
  • The escalation follows the US revoking a temporary sanctions waiver that had allowed Iran to export oil, further heightening tensions between the two countries.
