Iran launches retaliatory attacks on two US bases in Jordan

  • Iran says it has launched retaliatory strikes against two US military bases in Jordan after US forces hit rocket launchers on Iran's strategic Larak Island.
  • Hamid Bovard, CEO ⁠of the National Iranian Oil Company, dismissed claims by Trump that Kharg Island was destroyed as "laughable", confirming oil production continues normally.
  • US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced plans to introduce weekly secondary sanctions against banks handling Iranian money to increase economic pressure on the regime.
  • The European Union pledged to support US and G7 efforts to maintain economic pressure on Iran and promote regional stability.
  • The United Arab Emirates strongly condemned Iranian drone activity over its territorial waters as a ”flagrant violation of its sovereignty”, whilst denying Iranian reports that a US-backed airbase was struck.
