Iran begins dayslong funeral for supreme leader on America’s birthday

  • Iran commenced a multi-day funeral on Saturday for Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei , who died at the age of 86 following an airstrike at the outset of the war.
  • Mourners, dressed in black, gathered in Tehran, with Khamenei's body displayed at the Grand Mosalla, as the government anticipates millions will attend the ceremonies.
  • The funeral began on July 4, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the United States , during which crowds in Tehran chanted ' Death to America!'.
  • President Donald Trump remarked on the situation, stating, 'We knocked the hell out of Iran,' and noted that 'They want to settle so badly.'
  • The large turnout is expected to bolster Iran's government amidst negotiations with the United States regarding the Strait of Hormuz and ongoing concerns about potential Israeli attacks, particularly after threats against Mojtaba Khamenei.
