The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow but vital maritime corridor connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman, remains one of the most critical chokepoints for global oil transportation. However, despite granting safe passage to Indian vessels, Iran has imposed restrictions on ships associated with the United States, Europe, and Israel.
The safety of maritime navigation in the strait was a key issue during a recent conversation between India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The two leaders discussed the evolving situation in West Asia late Tuesday, marking their third interaction since tensions escalated in the ongoing Iran conflict.
