Iran has accused Israel of launching an attack on its military and radar sites from Iraqi airspace early Saturday. According to Iran's mission to the United Nations, Israeli warplanes carried out the strikes approximately 70 miles from Iran's border.
The Iranian mission also pointed fingers at the US, alleging complicity in the attack by stating that Iraqi airspace is under the control of the US military. However, the US has denied direct involvement in the operation, claiming to have only received prior notification about the strikes.
Following the incident, Iraqi Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr called on the Iraqi government to take swift diplomatic and political actions against Israel for the alleged violation of Iraqi airspace.
Despite these claims, Iraqi security sources have neither confirmed nor denied the reports of Israeli aircraft using Iraqi airspace for the attack. As of now, there has been no official response from Iraq regarding the matter.
When questioned about the incident, the Israel Defense Forces declined to provide further details beyond what has already been made public. Earlier statements from an IDF spokesperson indicated that Israeli aircraft conducted strikes on Iranian targets located approximately 1,600 kilometers away from Israel.
Both Israeli and Iranian officials have maintained a cautious approach in addressing the situation, with indications of efforts towards de-escalation from both sides.
